Posted: 24 Dec 2009 06:33 AM PST

RAPAPORT... Press Release - Milan, Italy: The dedicated website for the 2010 CIBJO Congress, to be held February 19-22 at International Congress Centre (ICM) of the Messe Muenchen, is now available to CIBJO congress delegates and other parties.

The site http://congress2010.cibjo.org offers online registration forms for the congress, as well as detailed information about the Congress venue hotel, other hotels and the rates available.

In addition, the site includes the draft congress programme, background material about Munich, the German jewellery industry and past CIBJO congresses. In the weeks leading up to the event, the digital Congress Binder will be made available for downloading, as well as a speakers list, speaker biographies and a press kit.

Given that the 2010 CIBJO congress coincides with the renowned inhorgenta 2010 fair, the ICM venue will allow congress registrants full access to the fair and other facilities offered by Messe Muenchen.

Karina Ratzlaff, president of the Federation of German Jewellery, Watches, Clocks, Silverware and Related Industries congratulated CIBJO on holding an annual CIBJO congress once again in Germany.

"We view this as a vote of confidence in Germany's role and contribution to the international jewellery industry and trade. As the congress coincides with inhorgenta 2010, we hope this will encourage more international delegates to come and participate and also have a chance to take part in the fair, where so many of our members will be exhibiting and proudly representing the German jewellery industry," Ratzlaff stated.

Preceding the CIBJO Congress, a gemmological mini conference about ruby gem stones will be held on Friday, February 19. More information about "Ruby Day" will be forthcoming and will also be made available on the dedicated congress website.

CIBJO is the international jewellery confederation of national trade organizations. CIBJO's purpose is to encourage harmonization, promote international cooperation in the jewellery industry and to consider issues which concern the trade worldwide. CIBJO's chief mission is to protect consumer confidence in the industry. Click here to go to the CIBJO website for more information.

COAÂ’s six finalists all women - Daily Advance

College of The Albemarle's ninth president will have at least one thing in common with its eighth: she'll be a woman.

After months of searching for a replacement for Lynne Bunch, COA's presidential search committee has narrowed the candidate pool to six finalists.

All are administrators at community colleges, all possess doctorates, and all six are female. Matt Wood, chairman of the COA Board of Trustees and member of the search committee, said that gender wasn't an issue when the group narrowed down its applicant pool.

"(Gender) really doesn't even register with me, to tell you the truth. I just think of them as candidates," Wood said.

Three of the candidates hail from North Carolina, two are from Florida and one is from Kentucky, according to a press release.

The finalists include:

• Edythe Abdullah, president of Florida State College's downtown campus in Jacksonville, Fla.;

• Kandi Deitemeyer, vice president of academic programs and services at Davidson County Community College in Lexington;

• Paula Gastenveld, assistant to the chancellor for workforce, academic and student affairs at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System office in Versailles, Ky.

• Pamela Hilbert, vice president of academic affairs, Pitt Community College in Greenville;

• Terrie Kelly, vice president for enrichment services, Tri-County Community College in Murphy; and

• Jill Landesberg-Boyle, president of Florida Keys Community College, Key West, Fla.

The six finalists will visit COA between Jan. 11-18 for interviews and tours of the campus. COA officials expect to name a new president in February. The finalists were selected earlier this month from a pool of 12 semi-finalists.

Submitted DVD interviews in which each candidate answered a series of questions allowed the 19-member search committee to trim the applicant pool in half. The six finalists meet and in some cases exceed the professional qualifications listed in the job description on COA's Web site.

What's left to determine is whether the candidates fit the college's more subjective expectations regarding character traits and personality.

In previous interviews, members of the search committee have expressed confidence in the applicant pool, as well as the committee's ability to complete the search on time. In an effort to keep the public informed regarding their presidential search, consultant Donny Hunter instructed Lisa Johnson, director of marketing and communications for COA, to release biographies of each of the six candidates. Hunter did so, he said, because he wanted the COA community to be familiar with the candidates prior to their visits in mid-January.

"... Having an open and transparent search... is something that's just part of the process," Hunter said.

He said he hoped the release of such information would help inform COA faculty and staff about the finalists prior to their meet-and-greet with the candidates next month.

Wood had a similar view, pointing out that modern technology has made it necessary for public boards hiring top officials to be more transparent.

"It's a transparent world that we're living in now with the Internet," Wood said. "We've had a process, we've tried to respect their privacy up to a point, but when they become finalists all the lights are on and all the doors are open at that point."
