Shadowing Dickens: The Birth of A Christmas Carol - Edmonton Journal

    Posted: 20 Dec 2009 03:45 AM PST

Shadowing Dickens: The Birth of A Christmas Carol is a new novel for the holiday season by Journal writer and editor Rick McConnell. Follow the adventures of Charles Dickens and the orphan Alfy Wickfield as they explore the foggy streets and dark alleys of London in search of the true heart of the classic Christmas tale.

McConnell's story mixes historical fact with dramatic fiction. For his research, he spent more

than a year reading Dickens's collected letters and several full-length biographies, then tramped the streets of London following the author's own footsteps

to some of the very locations Dickens used in his beloved tale about Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim.

A new chapter of Shadowing Dickens will run in Arts & Entertainment each day until the front-page finale on Christmas Eve.
